MONASTERIES

Since ancient times wonderworking icons, relic of saints, holy springs, monasteries, churches have attracted orthodox pilgrims. The main functioning monasteries are Svyato-Ioano-Bogoslovsky, Solotchinsky Rozhdestva Bogoroditsy and Vyshinsky ones.

 The Solotchinsky Convent is one of the most interesting sights of the Ryazan region. It is situated not far from the city of Ryazan. The founder of the convent was famous and legendary prince Oleg Ryazansky( XIV century). There are several architectural buildings on the territory of the convent: the church of Rozhdestva Bogoroditsy, the refectory house, the Predtechenskaya church which is decorated with four figures of evangelists.

The Svyato-Ioanno-Bogoslovsky Monastery was founded in honour of its apostle and evangelist Ioann Bogoslov in the XIII century A.D. It is situated 25 kilometres from Ryazan, in the village of Poshchupovo. The monastery is one of the most ancient ones in Ryazan region, and now the monks of the cloister live according to the age-old traditions. The wonder-working icon of Saint Ioann Bogoslov is its main object of worship. According to the legend the icon was painted in Byzantine in the VI century A.D. There are also shrines with Saint George Pobedonosets and Nicholas - Wonder-worker’s relic. There is a holy spring with the purest and medicinal water not far from the monastery.

The Svyato-Nicolo-Cherneevsky Monastery was founded in 1576 by celibate priest Matvey. It is situated in a picturesque place of our land on the right bank of the Tsna River. This monastery is famous for its wonder-working icon of Saint Panteleimon.

The Svyato-Uspensky Vyshinsky Convent is popular with pilgrims of Russia. It was founded in 1625.  Here are Feofan - Recluse’s relic and the icon of Kazanskaya Mother of God. In these places there are a lot of holy springs with pure and cool water.
